
There is a whole world of exciting choices for people with a disability at any one of Activ's People, Skills and Community services (formerly known as Alternatives to Employment) throughout Western Australia.
Activ provides a range of activities that encourage participation in every day life and opportunities to learn, contribute and have valued roles within the community.
These include:
Volunteering, work experience, TAFE, learning to use public transport, independent living skills, literacy, numeracy, communication, money skills, fitness programmes, the arts, sensory experiences, computer training, sport and recreation, membership and affiliation with community groups and clubs... and more.
Activ's People, Skills and Community focuses on four key outcomes:
- Social Participation
- Increased independence
- Lifelong learning
- Enhanced informal support networks
Activ's People, Skills & Community is offered to people with a disability who are unable to maintain 20 hours or more per week of supported employment and each person who accesses the service receives a person centered program. Activities are selected to ensure they benefit the individual to assist in achieving their goals and aspirations.
Eligibility criteria: People with a disability who have Alternatives to Employment / Post School Options funding from the Disability Services Commission.
Alternatively: A full "pay for service" option may be negotiated for people with a disability who do not meet funding criteria (dependent on vacancies).
Intensive Family Support funding can be used to purchase a "pay for service" option (dependent on vacancies).
A daily service fee applies (indexed to the Disability Support Pension). Some community activities may incur an additional cost.
Monday to Friday or as negotiated.
Services are offered 48 weeks of the year (closed two weeks mid-year and two weeks over Christmas).
Locations are across metropolitan and country areas.
Bus or other transport may be provided by Activ - subject to availability and additional service charges.
