Have you ever needed a break from your caring role just to collect your thoughts, catch up with friends, your spouse or even to go and do some shopping? Are there times where you haven’t been able to attend family functions or go to the park with the kids because you need that extra pair of hands and eyes to support you? The Children’s Community Respite program may be able to assist you and your family in accessing such activities. This program is for children who are 12 years or younger with low to moderate care needs and who have a developmental disability. The service is facilitated with Volunteers and you can feel secure in the knowledge your child or children are being cared for by one of our experienced and reliable Volunteer Carers. All Volunteer Carers have been Police Checked, have obtained a Working with Children’s Check Card and are familiar with Activ’s policies and procedures. The Children’s Community Respite service is primarily performed in the family home and the Volunteer Carer not only cares for the child with the disability but also any siblings who are in the home at the same time. If you would like a Volunteer Carer to assist you at an event, appointment or family function then this can be organised and coordinated in conjunction with the Children’s Community Respite Coordinator. The cost of this unique service is entirely funded by the Disability Services Commission and is free for eligible families. To discuss if your family is eligible to access the Children’s Community Respite program, please contact our Service Liaison department on 1800 622 351 or if you do not speak English please call our interpreter service on 131 450 within Australia. To access the Children's Community Respite Program or to find out more, contact the Coordinator directly on 9258 4711.
