The 4km Walk/ Run is undergoing a complete
overhaul in 2010- most importantly we have a new start line at
Mclean Park. The changes will better facilitate the 10,000+
crowd and will ensure the best possible family friendly environement
for all participants. The event start will be
relocated to the north side of Oceanic Drive, to McLean Park in
Floreat.
The move will see improved
event services such as: a dedicated 4km clothing drop off station,
improved information and help desk facilities, more
vendors so you can grab a morning coffee; more toilets;
better access to pre race activities such as warm-ups; and
guest appearances from local celebrities and sporting
heros.

 Thanks to Prime Health
Group the Prime Mining City to Surf for Activ allows mine site
workers and regional communities the opportunity to take part in
2010 Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ.
In 2009 the
township of Pannawonica really got behind the initiative with the
Pannawonica community, various mining contractors and the Rio Tinto
mining employees from both Mesa A and Mesa J operations taking part.
The entire town was involved in the event with the local Police
providing road blocks and escorts, the local volunteer groups
manning the water stations and the Prime Health Group team keeping a
watchful eye over the group.
100 participants were involved
in the day as they either ran or walked the 12km and 4km routes
placed throughout the town streets. There were many laughs, smiles
and sweat on the day! Pannawonica will be competing again this year
and we wish them all the very best of luck!
In the 2010 Prime
Health
Mining City to Surf for Activ there are some terrific prizes to be
won thanks to nib health funds. To

Photo of Marita
Somerford taken by Bilie Fairclough. |
 Chevron Australia’s
Community Engagement Officer Marita Somerford was one of the first
people to volunteer for this year’s event. Marita said she was keen
to volunteer because it aligns with Chevron’s focus on employee
health and wellness, encouraging work life balance and community
participation. She was looking forward to getting out on the day and
supporting the participants throughout the event.
While
Marita volunteers, her daughter Becky will be taking on the
impressive 42km Chevron Marathon event. This will be her first
attempt at the famous distance. Becky is excited by the challenge
that the beautiful course offers, and takes comfort in the knowledge
that her mum will be out on the course to give her a helping hand
when it is needed most.
“I will definitely be looking out for
mum when I run past – I’m sure I’ll need a drink by then! I am very
proud in the knowledge that she will be helping so many people
achieve their goals; not just me but everybody that takes part,”
Becky said.
The Rebel Sport City to Surf for Activ is a
wonderful family event, and we wish Marita and Becky all the best
for Sunday 29 August. |
