What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way for people living with a disability to get support through individualised funding plans. The NDIS focuses on putting individuals at the centre of their own world with full choice and control about the direction of their life.

Through individualised planning processes, you’ll identify the reasonable and necessary supports you need to enable you to achieve your goals.

Currently Western Australia is trialling two versions of the scheme, the NDIS and WA NDIS My Way. Trialling both schemes will mean service users and families will ultimately be the beneficiaries of the best possible delivery model for Western Australia. 

Western Australia will begin a phased, full-scheme roll-out of a state-based, locally-driven NDIS from 1 July 2017.

What is WA NDIS My Way?

The NDIS is run by the Federal Government. The WA NDIS My Way is our State Government’s version of this approach. Western Australia is unique in that the State Government, through the Disability Services Commission, is running its own trial.

The Federal Government’s NDIS began trials in the Perth Hills on 1 July 2014. WA NDIS My Way trials began in the Lower South West region with the Cockburn-Kwinana area joining in July 2015.

What is the NDIA?

The NDIA stands for National Disability Insurance Agency. It is the organisation responsible for running the NDIS. In Western Australia the NDIA is located in Midland, across the road from Activ.
