The NDIS was launched on 1 July 2013. The Scheme is being progressively rolled out over the next 5 years beginning with selected areas – known as trial sites. In Western Australia, the NDIS trial sites are run based on regions.
In April 2016 the State and Commonwealth Governments announced an extension and expansion to the existing arrangements as well as agreement that a phased, state-wide roll-out of the NDIS will commence in WA from 1 July 2017.
Where the NDIS is up and running:
- The NDIS is currently being trialled in the Perth Hills and Midland area
- WA NDIS My Way is being trialled in the Lower South West and Cockburn Kwinana areas
An additional two trial sites were announced in April 2016.
- The WA NDIS My Way trial will be expanded to include Armadale, Murray and Serpentine-Jarrahdale 1 October 2016.
- The NDIS trial will be expanded to include Bayswater, Bassendean, Chittering, Toodyay, York and Northam from 1 January 2017.
The lessons learned from these trials will help sort out any teething problems and determine the nature of the full NDIS roll out.
