Congratulations to eight of Activ’s supported employees who received service awards at the 2017 WA Disability Enterprises Annual Celebration on 24 October 2017.
The employees were honoured for their outstanding length of service, all had worked at Activ for at least 30 years and combined for nearly 300 years of service. The Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Disability Services, handed them their plaques and certificates personally.

Michael Davis – 45 years of service
Michael commenced work with Activ in December 1972 working at East Victoria Park Business Services. Over all those years Michael has undertaken many tasks and duties. Some of his work has included packing Show Bags for the Royal Show, assembling boxes and mosquito sticks for New Mountain and packing tea lights. Michael’s team leaders have described him as a quiet and friendly person and a very good worker. He is extremely observant and also willing to help people.
Gary Wallace – 40 Years
Gary commenced work with Activ in June 1977 at our Embleton Business Services. His work has included Qantas headsets and cutlery packs, assembling screws and packing Camphor. Gary is described by colleagues as a helpful team member and he was awarded a SIZ Award for working together to share the load for heavy boxes and bags.
Christeen Berzins – 40 Years
Christeen started work with Activ in July 1977 at our Embleton Business Services. She has been an invaluable worker on the airline products including the headsets. She is also a long-time kitchen-hand. Christeen is currently in progress towards achieving Asdan qualification in Cooking.
Charmaine Southwell – 35 Years
Charmaine commenced work with Activ in September 1982 also at our Business Services in East Victoria Park. Charmaine has a wide skillset and is a highly valued member of her team. She operates both the pallet wrapping machine and pallet jacks and has been involved in the New Mountain box assembly. In 2014 Charmaine completed her Certificate 1 in Leadership Development. She now puts those skills to use after becoming a Team Leader in 2016.
Michael Olden – 35 Years
Michael commenced work with Activ in March 1982 at our Business Services in East Victoria Park. Michael is a pallet jack operator and he is an expert with a paint roller, a skill which he has put to good use when painting stake pegs. He has also worked on the tealights and mosquito sticks. His colleagues have said that Michael is always willing to help out in the work area and help others with their work.
Andrew Hamence – 35 years
Andrew commenced work with Activ in November 1982 at our Business Services in East Victoria Park. Andrew’s supervisors describe him as a super friendly individual who is especially knowledgeable of workplace rules. Andrew always ensures that things are done safely and correctly. Over his 35 years his duties have ranged widely. Some of the projects he has worked on includes Voltive Candles, Dust Tea-Lights and New Mountain mosquito sticks.
Stephen Guthrie – 35 Years
Stephen commenced work with Activ in November 1982 at our Business Services in East Victoria Park. His work has included tea-light packing for Dusk and mosquito sticks for New Mountain. He always ensure his workplace is kept neat and tidy and can often be seen sweeping and cleaning up his site. In 2010 Stephen completed Certificate I in Leadership Development with Activ Pathways.
Mace Pedler – 30 Years
Mace commenced work with Activ in August 1987 at our Business Services in Palmyra. He is a highly skilled worker who has worked on assembling Caroma cabinets and Corinthian panels and doors and operating the pallet wrapping machine. He has also worked for Activ’s Property Care service. In 2010, Mace completed Certificate 1 in Leadership Development and he has subsequently been made a Leading hand.
