The timber team at Activ Employment Services Bunbury have worked together to custom-design and build furniture for new Bunbury local business, Nourish Juice and Coffee Bar.
This exciting new contract was not only a fantastic opportunity for Activ to support small business, but it also provided our supported employees with an opportunity to learn new skills and achieve greater independence at work.
Our supported employees and their production coordinator, Keith Winch, measured the location and provided the café’s owner, Larrisa Feather, with initial designs, before cutting and assembling the pallet-style furniture for the local café.
Following new cutting lists and getting the chance to custom-design furniture was an invaluable experience for the team, who are always eager to learn new skills and achieve their employment goals, whilst providing high-quality products to commercial customers like Larrisa.
Activ’s customer operations manager South West, Darren McNab, said the team were thrilled to design and manufacture the timber pieces.
“Our supported employees really take pride in their work and love seeing it out in the local community, to show their family and friends and talk about what they’ve created,” said Darren.

“We enjoy seeing their skills grow along with their confidence, and it means so much to them as they are able to be creative, and get involved in the design and development of something new. It’s a pleasure to be involved in.”
Owner of Nourish Juice Bar and Café Larrisa, recognises the importance of providing meaningful employment to people with disability and is thrilled with the furniture now being used at her business.
“When I was planning my shop fit-out, with COVID and its challenges I really wanted to support local while using substantial products. After visiting the Activ pop-up shop in Busselton, I fell in love with the products and the fact that I’d be supporting a business with a purpose I believe in.” said Larrisa.
“It meant a lot to me to work with Activ, the team work so hard and the workmanship was amazing. I really can’t wait to expand the café so I can work with Activ again – I get comments on our furniture every day.”
Activ Employment Services Bunbury is looking forward to supporting more local businesses with custom-made furniture and expanding the team’s scope of work, after working on contracts with the Bunbury Turf Club, Busselton Jetty, Illusions Margaret River and Matso’s Brewery!
