Executive Manager Quality, Safeguarding and Clinical Governance

Emma Brierty, Founder and Managing Director of Preempt Consulting, joined Activ in April 2023 in a consulting capacity as Executive Manager Quality, Safeguarding and Clinical Governance.

Having previously worked in executive management positions at St Ives Group and Youth Focus, Emma’s experience in the aged care and community health sectors, together with her clinical training, has equipped her well to influence and shape best-practice frameworks and internal processes that are customer driven and outcomes focused.

Emma holds a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Notre Dame Australia, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Medical/Surgical Nursing and a Diploma in Frontline Management from Aspire Performance Training.

Executive Manager People and Culture

Elaine Taylor joined Activ in June 2023 as the Executive Manager People and Culture.

Prior to commencing at Activ, Elaine held various senior management roles in people and culture across the maritime, mining, oil and gas, logistics, finance and utility sectors. Most recently, Elaine was the Manager People and Culture at Fremantle Ports.

Elaine is a passionate human resources professional with broad experience including developing HR strategies, policies, systems and processes, industrial relations and developing leadership frameworks to maximise leadership capability and organisational performance.

Elaine holds a Bachelor of Business in Human Resources and Management.

Jamin Hirte

Executive Manager Strategy and Digital

Jamin Hirte was appointed to the role of Executive Manager Strategy and Digital in August 2022.

Jamin has significant experience across a number of not for profit and commercial organisations, including Chorus, RAC and Bankwest.

Jamin brings a wealth of experience in driving strategic outcomes for organisations, leveraging digital to enable strategy, leading operational teams and using analytics and data to drive strategic outcomes.

Chief Financial Officer

Kelly Smith joined Activ in 2021 as the Head of Finance and Reporting, and was appointed to the Chief Financial Officer role in August 2022.

Prior to commencing at Activ, Kelly held various roles in financial management within the university sector in Australia and the UK. Most recently she was the Associate Director for Financial Services at the University of Western Australia.

Kelly is an experienced and analytical senior manager who is passionate about the not-for-profit sector and delivering high quality and culturally-aligned business solutions to support Activ’s vision and mission.

Kelly holds Bachelor degrees in Health Science and Commerce, is a Certified Practicing Accountant and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Chief Operating Officer

Darren Cutri was appointed to the Chief Operating Officer role in May 2022.

Darren brings a strong financial background to Activ, most recently holding the position of Chief Financial Officer at Ability WA, helping the organisation to navigate the challenges of the NDIS implementation.

Some of Darren’s other career highlights include Chief Finance Officer at The University of Notre Dame, as well as Director of Finance at the Anglican Diocese of Perth, and Non-Executive Director at MercyCare.

Additionally, Darren holds years of experience in the not-for-profit sector, having worked with St John of God Health Care for several years, where he held the roles of Group Manager Accounting Services, Joint Acting Group Director Finance and Finance Manager.

Executive Manager Marketing, Fundraising and Events

Michael joined Activ as Executive Manager Marketing, Fundraising and Events in February 2022.

With over 15 years’ management experience in commercial and charitable marketing, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge in strategic marketing, branding, fundraising, lotteries, philanthropy, donor relations and leadership to the role.  

Prior to joining Activ, Michael led the National Lotteries Team at MSWA for over 11 years, driving significant growth in revenue, profitability, and brand awareness.

Michael is passionate about the adoption of cutting-edge marketing and management practices in the charitable sector to drive efficiency and profitability leading to a greater purpose-led community impact.  

 

Michael holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Business and is also a State Committee Member of the Australian Marketing Institute.

Chief Executive Officer

Michael joined Activ as Chief Executive Officer in November 2021.

With over 25 years’ executive experience in property, aged care and membership-based insurance, Michael brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for community involvement to the role.

Michael has previously worked as COO at Hawaiian, CEO of the St Ives Group and Perth Racing and in senior executive management roles at the RAC for 16 years.

Holding an MBA and Diploma of Strategic Management, Michael is also a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors and the Australian Institute of Management, is a Board Member of MercyCare and the Australian Institute of Management WA, and is a Committee Member of the Carbine Club of WA.

Michael has been a director of several not for profit organisations, and is especially passionate about serving the WA disability community, as evidenced through his own charity that supports athletes with disability.

 

Chief Financial Officer

Ann joined Activ in May 2019 as Executive Manager of Finance and Governance, and was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in June 2022.

Ann brings highly strategic finance executive experience to her role with almost 30 years of experience managing mid-sized organisations, predominantly in the healthcare sector.

Her experience includes leading financial and project management of large construction and redevelopment projects, business analysis and development and strategic management.

Prior to joining Activ, Ann was the Chief Financial Officer at the Royal Flying Doctor Service of WA. She has also worked for the Anglican Diocese of Perth, Craigcare and Amana Living.

A Certified Practising Accountant, Ann holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business, majoring in Accounting and Business law and also holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Executive Manager Strategy and New Business

Benjamin joined Activ in 2018 and was appointed as Executive Manager Transformation in November 2020. Prior to this appointment he led Activ’s Innovation division and was instrumental in the development of Activ’s Independence strategy. He brings with him a wealth of experience working with social purpose organisations to achieve transformative growth and impact across Australia.

He is passionate about the role non-profits can play in shaping a future that is inclusive to all, working alongside customers to address the most significant challenges facing Australian society. Benjamin has a particular interest in social impact measurement and is a founding member and current Director of the Social Impact Measurement Network of Australia (SIMNA).

Benjamin holds a Master of Business Administration with Distinction from the University of Western Australia, is a Tracey Horton Scholar and Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.

Executive Manager Special Operations

Michelle joined Activ in April 2014 and was appointed Executive Manager of Operations North in October 2018. Michelle

Michelle has more than 25 years’ experience in the not for profit sector, including more than 12 years in senior leadership roles. Michelle is a strong leader whose approach to leadership involves coaching direct reports to ensure high performance and a team focus on fostering and maintaining relationships with customers and other key stakeholders.

Michelle’s broad experience enables the delivery of high quality integrated services that provide commercially sustainable customer outcomes, focused on fostering collaboration and optimising opportunities across all teams.

As the Executive Manager of Operations North, Michelle oversaw State and Commonwealth funded services delivered by Activ in an NDIS operated environment. This role covered the Perth east metro, north-east metro and north metro areas, in addition to the Wheatbelt and the Mid-West.

In 2021, Michelle was appointed to the role of Executive Manager Special Operations.
