Course structure

Certificate IV in Disability Support includes seven (7) core and three (3) elective nationally accredited units.

Where the course is not completed, a Statement of Attainment will be issued for any completed units.

Core units

  • CHCCCS044 Follow established person-centred behaviour supports
  • CHCDIS017 Facilitate community participation and social inclusion
  • CHCDIS018 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach
  • CHCDIS019 Provide person-centred services to people with disability with complex needs.
  • CHCLEG003 Manage legal and ethical compliance
  • CHCMHS001 Work with people with mental health issues
  • HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety

Elective units

  • CHCCCS006 Facilitate individual service planning and delivery
  • CHCCCS004 Assess co-existing needs
  • CHCCOM002 Use communication to build relationships

Learners will be issued with a statement of attainment for all successfully completed units.

Work placement

To achieve the skill requirements of this qualification, students must complete 80 hours of work placement.

We are well connected with industry and will organise work placement for you that will satisfy the learning outcomes of your qualification. If the placement option we source is not suitable, you are welcome to source your own placement opportunity and we will assess if the learning outcomes will be met. Placement is unpaid.

If you are employed and wish to complete your placement hours with your current employer, your workplace will need to be assessed to ensure the learning outcomes will be met.

Entry requirements

To enter this course, you will need to have completed:

  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), or
  • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability), or
  • CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability and CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.

Study requirements

Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate:

  • Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Communication, documentation and research skills
  • Physical capacity for manual handling
  • Access to a laptop or desktop computer, with basic digital literacy skills

Students undertaking blended and/or online training will require intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software.

Assessment Conditions

To complete this qualification, you’ll need to demonstrate your skills in a workplace setting, as required by assessment conditions. genU Training will guide you on units that need workplace assessment.

Workstation setup

You will need a quiet space for study that has stable internet connection. You will also need:

  • Web camera, microphone and speakers
  • Smartphone with charger
  • Earbuds or headphones
  • Zoom video conferencing software.

Please note: You will need to turn your camera and microphone on, as required when using video conferencing.
