New SDA build starts at Caversham Quarter

Activ Foundation’s Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) offerings are continuing to grow with the development of four new homes in Caversham, minutes from the heart of the Swan Valley.

Construction of the four custom-designed SDA homes by WAI Group has begun, in collaboration with Activ Foundation and Community Housing Ltd (CHL). The homes are expected to be completed early in 2024.

Close to local parklands and public transport access, the four SDA homes will be designed and built to meet the needs of individuals living with a disability who have specific support requirements.

The home designs are fully accessible, meaning they have been designed to incorporate a high level of physical access provision for people with significant physical impairment.

Customised floor plans featuring large hallways and spacious living areas with step-free paths will increase the ease of maneuvering around the homes and outdoor areas in wheelchairs. Assistive technologies will also be included throughout the homes to boost accessibility and make daily living tasks simpler, building independence of tenants.

Activ Head of Strategic Operations Brooke Draper said it was fantastic to see another SDA housing project underway.

“SDA homes provide our customers with greater choice and independence in their day-to-day lives,” Ms Draper said.

“Our ongoing collaboration with WAI Group and CHL continues to see Activ customers with high support needs benefit from custom designs and features that improve their lives and boost independence, making a house their welcoming home.”

There are currently 12 vacancies in these three-bedroom, three-bathroom properties. All bedrooms include a spacious en-suite bathroom, designed to suit the needs of each resident. The homes also feature a bedroom/office space for overnight support care and a separate bathroom for support staff and guests.

Residents will be able to enjoy the tranquility of Caversham and convenience of living close to many community amenities including local shopping centres, parks and a community centre. With all of the Swan Valley’s attractions a short drive away, they will be able to explore all of the delights the Valley has to offer.

These homes are Specialist Disability Accommodation, residents must have SDA funding in their NDIS plan to be eligible.
