This nationally recognised skill set has been designed for individuals seeking entry-level roles in the health and community services sector.

It’s the first step in learning new skills and setting yourself up for success prior to commencing either our Certificate III in Community Services or Certificate III in Individual Support.

Duration: Every Tuesday over 13 weeks

Time: 5 sessions @ 9:00am – 2:00pm, 8 sessions @ 9:00am – 3:30pm

Location: Study virtually with real time online with instructor-led sessions via Zoom.

Course structure

To be awarded CHCSS00088 Induction skill set, a student must successfully complete a total of four (4) units of competency, consisting of:

Units of competency

  • CHCCOM005 Communicate and work in health or community services
  • CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
  • HLTWHS002 Follow safe work practices for direct client care
  • HLTWHS006 Manage personal stressors in the work environment

Learners will be issued with a statement of attainment for all successfully completed units.

Study requirements

During your study, you will need to meet specific requirements that are necessary for you to complete your course work and be successful:

  • Students will need to demonstrate that they have the appropriate language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills
  • Effective communication, documentation and research skills
  • Access to digital technologies (e.g. laptop, desktop, tablet-computer and/or smartphone) with basic digital literacy skills.

Students undertaking a blended and/or online virtual training will require the additional digital skills and technologies:

Digital literacy skills – Intermediate computer skills such as internet browsing, email, word processing, and presentation software

Workstation setup

    • Stable internet connection with suitable data plan
    • A laptop, desktop or a full size tablet / tablet-computer
    • Web camera / microphone
    • Smartphone with charger
    • Earphones / headphones / speakers
    • Printer (optional)
    • Have a quiet / non-interruptive space to complete their studies
    • Desk/table, comfortable chair, no tripping hazards and room to move around for assessment
    • Access to water/tea/coffee

This skill set reflects the skill requirements for people entering the health and community services sector. It provides a set of skills to support the induction of new workers into a variety of roles which may involve working directly or indirectly with clients.
