The Hon. Don Punch MLA, Minister for Disability Services, officially opens West End Villas.

Activ is excited to announce that our first Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) offering was officially opened in Geraldton on 19 July 2021, by the Hon. Don Punch MLA, Minister for Disability Services.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by the Minister, a number of local media outlets, some distinguished guests including Mayor of Geraldton Shane Van Styn, Lara Dalton MLA for Geraldton, as well as some of Activ’s customers who are set to move into their new homes next week.

After the official opening ceremony, attendees were provided with a tour of the new homes, experiencing firsthand how the lives of the residents living there will be greatly improved. From adjustable benchtops to raised garden beds, each house offers unique benefits that support the resident’s individual needs.

This project marks Activ’s first step into the SDA market, and we are proud to be able to provide our regional customers with modern, bespoke and purpose-built homes to support them in achieving greater independence.

This SDA project is the first of its kind in WA, bringing together three parties; Activ, WAI Group and Community Housing Limited, to offer a level of choice and control around service provision across property management, supports for independent living and the building provider, that has never before been possible.

Executive manager operations north, Michelle Bilson, is excited about the benefits that SDA will provide our customers.

The Hon. Don Punch MLA, Minister for Disability services speaks to Activ customer and resident of West End Villas, Diane.

“At Activ, we’re fully committed to supporting our regional customers with their independence goals, and this partnership supports that commitment,” said Michelle.

“For this reason, we feel very lucky to have forged this partnership with WAI and CHL, and we are really excited to see our customers experience all the benefits that SDA can provide as they progress in their journeys to greater independence.”

NDIS participants can test their eligibility for SDA and work to have this funding included in their NDIS plans. To find out more about Activ’s accommodation options and to discuss SDA eligibility, contact our Customer Engagement team via email at hello@activ.asn.au or on 08 9387 0555.
