Activ has recently come under some criticism for our decision to keep our employment services sites open. I want to address that decision and reassure you that we continue to monitor all of our services and sites as circumstances around the coronavirus pandemic change. Our employment services sites will remain open and operational for the foreseeable future to provide continuity of support for our many customers who still wish to work. I assure you that as part of our commitment to choice and control, we are taking our lead from our customers – if they want to work, they can come to work. Some customers have already chosen to take leave or temporarily stop receiving services and we are supportive of that choice.
I am pleased to report that we have had some positive feedback from supported employees and their families who appreciate our decision to keep our employment services sites open. Worksafe recently carried out an inspection of one of our employment sites and informed us how comfortable they were with what we had in place and supportive of the additional measures we are implementing.
We are working closely with representatives from across the disability sector such as the State Government, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Department of Communities (DoC). I look forward to continuing this conversation as the situation evolves.
We continue to assess all our operations to ensure the safety of both our customers and staff and will comply with any legislation changes as and when they are made. I will keep you up-to-date with any changes.
