We are proud to announce a new partnership with As We Are – a prestigious State-wide exhibition and awards program that showcases the talents of Western Australian artists living with intellectual disability.
Established in 2002, As We Are is overseen by a panel of independent, professional visual artists, with cash prizes awarded in seven categories. Each year, As We Are draws an exceptionally high standard of work from artists across WA, showcasing these talents with an exhibition at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
We have had a long history of celebrating our customers’ creative talents through our popular Artspace exhibition. While Artspace will not take place in 2020, Activ’s new partnership with As We Are presents an exciting opportunity for customers’ artwork to be displayed in a major, high profile exhibition that will be seen by thousands of visitors.
Our CEO Danielle Newport said the decision to partner with As We Are was consciously made to support and encourage our customers’ participation in a public forum.
“The opportunity for our customers to participate in a high-profile event such as As We Are strongly aligns with our commitment to providing pathways to independence,” Ms Newport said.
“We have some talented artists, and this will provide an opportunity to develop their art career.”
As We Are coordinator Susie Waller said the initiative was originally inspired by a belief in equal opportunities for artists of all abilities. She said As We Are was very excited to partner with Activ in 2020, as an organisation that promoted its customers’ independence in all areas, including their creative endeavours.
“We recognise that Activ is highly committed to its artists and supporting them to showcase and sell their artwork in a premier arts event,” Ms Waller said. “As We Are provides artists with such an opportunity, attracting more than 150 Western Australian artists with intellectual disability from around the State. The As We Are 2020 exhibition will take place from 8 – 22 November at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre’s level 2 main foyer.
