New pilot developed to support employment outcomes

At Activ, we are focused on developing new services that support progression towards independence for people living with disability.

We recognise that people living with disability are not given the same opportunities to explore meaningful work as everyone else.

As a result, we have developed a commercial cleaning pilot to act as a stepping stone between supported employment and open employment environments.

The cleaning crews consist of a blended team of people living with a disability working alongside peers without disability, which better mirrors open employment.

The teams are developing industry-recognised skills through on-the-job training and a nationally recognised qualification in commercial cleaning.

Over the course of the program, supports are gradually reduced to help preparation for open employment.

Since the pilot was launched on 1 July, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with one supported employee having already applied for a job in open employment.

If you’re interested in either joining the pilot or becoming a commercial client, email learh.wiles@activ.asn.au for more information.
