New training headquarters paves a path for education

Bentley’s university and technology precinct is now home to another education and training facility, with the welcome addition of Activ Pathway’s newly refurbished headquarters.

Activ Pathways is Activ Foundation’s Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that offers training for people living with disability, disability sector workers, professional development, and schools.

This week, our guests gathered to officially open the new training centre, which sits on the border of Bentley and East Victoria Park.

Activ CEO Michael Heath said the new headquarters opening was an exciting time for Activ and offered another avenue for learning for people from all walks of life.

“Activ Pathways was established in 2008 and since then we have trained and upskilled thousands of people whether that be people working in the disability sector to corporates looking for professional development or preparing people living with disabilities to reach their goals and get ready for the workforce,’ Mr Heath said.

“Activ offers a range of nationally recognised qualifications, individual units of competency, non-accredited programs and clinical programs covering essential clinical skills for individuals providing care to people in need.”

“The courses cover a wide spectrum of skills as well, not just focused on the care sector, but Hospitality, Retail, Leadership,, ESL, Horticulture, Manufacturing, General Education and Workplace Skills.”

The updated Pathways headquarters incorporates several training rooms, offices, meeting spaces and a large internal open area with kitchen and space to set up for hospitality training.

“Having a training headquarters means all training can happen onsite, with a range of spaces to create a buzzing learning hub,” Mr Heath said.

The Activ Pathways team are loving their new home and have seen an increase in interest from people looking to upskill, particularly under the Government’s Fee Free in 23 initiative.

“It’s great to see so many people taking advantage of the Fee Free program, which has also coincided with our release of Open Programs and rolling intakes that allow companies to send staff out for training if and when they can rather than enrolling a whole group of people, which is great in the current climate of staff shortages,” Mr Heath said.

“We have seen a big increase in the number of people and organisations looking for training in our Certificate III in Individual Support , also for leaders a Certificate IV in Disability, which is great as the sector needs more workers to fill demand.

“Pathways have also recently launched a new Entry to Care skillset that allows those new to the industry to take a short course to get a taste of what the care industry is like before they commit to a full qualification.

“There has also been rising interest from corporates looking into our Diversity & Inclusion training, which can be modified according to company needs. This is heartening as we are seeing more businesses discovering how employing people living with disability can boost their workforce and capabilities.”
