Finding a place to live is an important step towards greater independence. We provide shared and independent living options across the state, and work with people with disability to find the right living option to support their individual independence goals.
As a new customer to Activ, we will support you to find the right living option for you. We’ll work with you to achieve greater independence in a home that enables access to your community, family support and employment services.
As your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities, we ensure that our staff are provided with ongoing training and have a police clearance. Many of our staff hold relevant disability qualifications in addition to first aid, medication and social training.

Does the NDIS help with housing?
The NDIS can help participants to live independently. There are different types of home and living supports that the NDIS can fund. Some supports include supported independent living (SIL), individualised living options (ILO), short-term accommodation (STA) and specialist disability accommodation (SDA). For more information, visit the NDIS website here.
What is SDA?
Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) enables people with disability to live as independently as possible, through funding that encourages the development of purpose-built housing options. These housing options are designed to meet the needs of participants who require specialist housing solutions to assist with the delivery of their support.
Learn more about our Specialist Disability Accommodation services.
What is SIL?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is paid personal supports that help people with disability to complete daily tasks and increase their independence. This may include support with meal preparation and personal care.
What is the criteria for Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
SIL funding is typically for people with disability who need 24/7 support while living in a shared home. The amount of SIL funding received is dependant on the level and type of support an individual needs to live as independently as possible. For more information on the factors NDIS planners consider when making this decision, visit the NDIS Supported Independent Living for Participants page here.
Where can I find shared homes for SIL?
There are many disability service providers who provide shared accommodation. A support coordinator can help you to navigate the process of finding a home, and will liaise directly with service providers, like Activ, on your behalf.
What are the costs of SIL?
SIL funding covers the costs of having support staff in a supported accommodation house. The level of funding will differ depending on the level of support required. The cost of support does not include rent, transport costs, groceries or usual living expenses.
What is the difference between SDA and SIL?
SIL refers to the funding for the support services that are delivered in an accommodation house. SDA refers to the home in which those services are delivered. SDA homes are purpose-built for people with disability who require specialist housing solutions.
