Finding a place to live is a key driver for everyone’s independence. Activ provides shared and independent living options that support everyday living while also supporting independence.

As a new customer to Activ, we will support you to find the right living option. Great care is taken to meet your needs with respect to comfort, compatibility, family support and access to your community and employment services.

As your safety and wellbeing are our top priorities, we ensure that our staff are provided with ongoing training and have a police clearance. Many of our staff hold relevant disability qualifications in addition to first aid, medication and social training.

Our Supported Accommodation Options

Shared Accommodation

Our shared accommodation is for people with intellectual disability who require support with everyday living. Residents can access trained staff 24 hours a day and live in homes which blend into the community.

We have more than 70 houses in metropolitan Perth and regional Western Australia. This large number of houses allows us to offer some flexibility to support you in where you want to live. We believe you should have choice and control over your living arrangements.

Independent Living Options

If you live in your own home, we can provide you with drop-in support. This may include assistance with meal preparation, budgeting, shopping and accessing your community.

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)

If you have a disability, obtaining suitable accommodation that meets your needs can be challenging. In order to address a lack of accessible housing options for people with disability, the NDIS has created a funding stream called Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).

    Frequently Asked Questions

To read the answer, click on each question.

    Does NDIS help with housing?

The NDIS can help participants to live independently. There are different types of home and living supports that the NDIS can fund. Some supports include supported independent living (SIL), individualised living options (ILO), short-term accommodation (STA) and specialist disability accommodation (SDA). For more information, visit NDIS here.

    What is SDA?

Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) enables people with disability to live as independently as possible through funding that encourages development of purpose-built housing options. These housing options are designed to meet the needs of participants who require specialist housing solutions to assist with the delivery of their supports.

    What is SIL?

Supported independent living (SIL) is paid personal supports that help people with disability complete daily tasks and increase their independence. This may include help with meal preparation and personal care.

What is the criteria for supported independent living?

SIL funding is typically for people with disability who need 24/7 support while living in a shared home. The amount of SIL funding received is dependant on the level and type of support an individual needs to live as independently as possible. For more information on the factors NDIS planners consider when making this decision, visit NDIS Supported Independent Living Participants here.

Where can I find shared homes for SIL?

There are many disability service providers who provide shared accommodation. A Support Coordinator will help you navigate the process and will liaise directly with service providers on your behalf.

What are the costs of SIL?

Supported independent living (SIL) funding covers the costs of support staff in the supported accommodation house. The level of funding will differ depending on the level of support required. The cost of support does not include rent, transport costs, groceries or usual living expenses.

What is the difference between SDA and SIL?

SIL refers to the funding for the support services that are delivered in the house. SDA refers to the home in which those services are delivered. SDA homes are purpose-built for people with disability who require specialist housing solutions.
