Activ celebrated National Volunteer Week on May 8 - 14 by recognising and and thanking all our volunteers who donate their time to help Activ customers achieve their personal goals and live the life they choose.
Many Activ volunteers have a long history of contributing their time and skills to support people living with disability, with some having volunteered for over 30 years. It is estimated that across the organisation Activ volunteers contribute 27,789 hours annually.
Activ CEO Danielle Newport is appreciative of all volunteers who dedicate their personal time and skill to the cause.
“Regardless of age or experience, our volunteers believe in our customers and are there to support experiences that we often take for granted,” she says.
“Whether Activ volunteers provide an hour or ten of their time, the support they give our customers living with a disability is a priceless one.”
There are volunteering opportunities in all areas of the organisation including supporting customers on holidays and outings, companionship, helping out with programs that focus on skills development and event volunteering. Volunteers are also an enormous support for Activ’s largest annual fundraising event series, the Chevron City to Surf for Activ, which will be held later this year across July and August.
The future of volunteering is an evolving and expanding one. Volunteering for people living with disability calls for flexible, scalable and individualised services. Activ believes that volunteers will have an important part to play in further enhancing these services to provide additional opportunities and support to all our customers.
